What’s your thread pitch?

Pick your platform on the left. We’ll show the muzzle thread spec, which direction it tightens, and what it’s compatible with — before you order the wrong adapter.

Verify before you buy

Manufacturers change threading between production runs, especially on imported AK-pattern rifles. If you don’t trust the spec sheet, count it yourself. This trick only works for standard inch threads (1/2×28, 5/8×24, and so on) — AK-pattern metric threads like M14×1 or M24×1.5 won’t produce a match below, since they’re not measured in TPI at all. For those, check the AK sections above or measure diameter and pitch with a caliper.

  1. Mark a full 1-inch section of exposed threading near the muzzle.
  2. Count every crest (peak) inside that inch — not the valleys.
  3. Drag the slider to match your count.

Specs above reflect the most common factory threading per platform, sourced from published manufacturer data. Production changes over time and imported models vary — always confirm with a thread gauge or the manufacturer before ordering suppressor mounts, muzzle brakes, or adapters. Nothing on this page is instructions for modifying or converting a platform; it’s fitment reference only.

AR-Pattern Rifles

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
AR-15 (.223/5.56, up to .243)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)The default AR muzzle thread in the US. Also common on many .22 LR uppers.
AR-15 (.300 BLK)5/8" × 24 TPIRight-hand (RH)Some .300 BLK pistols ship 1/2×28 — check your barrel, not just the caliber.
AR-10 / .308 / 6.5 CM (up to .300 Win Mag)5/8" × 24 TPIRight-hand (RH)A handful of AR-10 makers use 9/16×24 instead — verify before ordering a direct-thread mount.
AR-15 9mm Carbine (Colt-pattern)1/2" × 36 TPIRight-hand (RH)Non-standard pitch. Direct-thread suppressors for 5.56 will not fit without an adapter.
Big bore (beyond .300 Win Mag)5/8" × 32 TPIRight-hand (RH)

AK-Pattern Rifles

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
AK-47 / AKM (7.62×39, 5.45×39 standard)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Left-hand thread — most US-pattern suppressor mounts need an LH-to-RH adapter.
AK-74 / AK-100 seriesM24 × 1.5Right-hand (RH)Right-hand on the 100-series, unlike the classic AKM — easy to assume wrong.
SKS (sporterized, 7.62×39)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Same family as AKM. Confirm your specific rebuild — aftermarket threading varies.

AK-Pattern — By Brand

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
PSA AKM-pattern (GF3 / GF5, 7.62×39 & 5.45×39)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)PSA’s stamped-receiver AKs follow the traditional Soviet-pattern thread.
PSA AK-100 series (AK-104 / AK-105, GF4)M24 × 1.5Right-hand (RH)PSA moved its own 100-series to the modern RH pitch — don’t assume it matches their 47-pattern rifles.
PSA AK-V (9mm) / AK-556 (5.56)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)Breaks from AK convention entirely and shares the AR/pistol ecosystem instead.
Zastava ZPAP M70 / ZPAP92 (7.62×39)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Consistent Soviet-pattern thread across Zastava’s stamped-receiver lineup.
Century Arms VSKA (US-made, 7.62×39)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Built to the standard AKM pattern.
Century Arms WASR-10/63 (Romanian import)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Romanian imports have a well-documented history of oddball, inconsistent threading — some units don’t match standard 14×1 LH at all. Verify with a gauge before ordering anything.
Arsenal SAM7 series (Bulgarian, 7.62×39)M14 × 1Left-hand (LH)Bulgarian-made and built tight to Soviet spec.
Kalashnikov USA KR-103 (US-made, 100-series pattern)M24 × 1.5Right-hand (RH)Same modern pitch as PSA’s 100-series — not the classic AKM thread.
Kalashnikov USA KP-9 (9mm pistol)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)Shares the AR/PCC ecosystem rather than AK convention.

Pistols

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
9mm (US-pattern: Glock, M&P, etc.)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)
.40 S&W9/16" × 24 TPIRight-hand (RH)Some models use 5/8×24 or .578×28 instead — barrel-specific.
.45 ACP / 10mm.578" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)
European-pattern (Glock/Sig/H&K threaded models)M13.5 × 1Left-hand (LH)Common on EU-market pistols. Needs an adapter for US suppressor mounts.

PCC & Subguns

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
9mm PCC (Colt-pattern: CMMG, Troy, etc.)1/2" × 36 TPIRight-hand (RH)
9mm PCC (CZ Scorpion, Diamondback)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)
MP5-pattern (SP5, Zenith, PTR, Century AP5, etc.)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)Same as the AR-15/9mm standard — not a special MP5 pitch. Civilian semi-auto clones (Zenith, PTR, Century, MKE) all thread 1/2×28; the rare military MP5-N is reported at 1/2×30, so double-check if you have one of those.

Bolt-Action & Battle Rifles

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
.30-cal bolt-action (Remington 700, Tikka, Savage, etc.)5/8" × 24 TPIRight-hand (RH)Most aftermarket-threaded bolt-action rifles from .243 Win up through .300 Win Mag land here — same as the AR-10/.308 standard.
M1A / M14 (factory barrel).595" × 32 TPIRight-hand (RH)A proprietary pitch, not a standard thread — Springfield confirms all their M1A barrels ship this way. You need a step-up adapter (commonly to 5/8×24) before any standard muzzle device or suppressor will fit.
FN FAL (.308)9/16" × 24 TPILeft-hand (LH)Standard FAL threading is left-hand — the reverse of most .30-cal rifles. Needs an LH-to-RH adapter (commonly to 5/8×24) for standard devices.
FN SCAR 175/8" × 24 TPIRight-hand (RH)

Rimfire

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
.22 LR (most threaded barrels)1/2" × 28 TPIRight-hand (RH)Shares a pitch with 5.56, but a .22 bore should only run a rated .22 suppressor.

Airsoft

PlatformThreadDirectionNotes
AEG & GBB Rifles (standard)14mm CCWLeft-hand (LH)Pitch is 1mm (M14×1) either way — only the direction changes between platforms.
AEG Exceptions (CW platforms)14mm CWRight-hand (RH)G&P Armalite-pattern AEGs, MP5/MP40-style GBBs, and M14-pattern rifles commonly run this way — always check before ordering.
GBB Pistols (WE / AW / Marui-pattern)11mm CW (internal)Right-hand (RH)Most GBB pistol platforms (WE, Armorer Works, VFC, G-series, Hi-Capa/1911 clones) need an 11mm-to-14mm CCW step-up adapter before mock suppressors or tracers will fit.
